Adena Receives Grant

Adena Health System has been awarded a $13,567 grant from the Cardinal Health Foundation's Prescription Drug Abuse and Misuse Prevention Grant Program. Cardinal Health Foundation has awarded more than $350,000 to 26 non-profit organizations throughout the U.S. that are dedicated in fighting prescription drug abuse.

Adena’s Pharmacy Services Department is leading the “Adena Prescription Drug Safety Initiative” to deliver our service region’s first prescription drug abuse initiative driven by the medical community. The grant funds will assist Adena pharmacists in raising awareness about the growing public health issue of drug abuse and prescription misuse in our community.

“The intent of the grant is to provide education about drug and prescription medication abuse in Ohio,” said Adena Pharmacy Manager Bryan Piccirillo, PharmD. “It is imperative that communities understand the overall drug problem and organize to combat it.”

This is the fourth year the Cardinal Health Foundation has offered this funding, which is available to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. Priority consideration is given to programs with specific focus on increasing awareness on the dangers of misuse or abuse of prescription medications, and to those educating communities about the proper use and disposal of prescription drugs.

Adena is working to create a program that will reach our community – leaders, law enforcement, parents, teachers and students – by getting the facts out about prescription misuse and abuse, and raising awareness of the drug abuse problem.
