Ross Recorder Extends Hours for Vets ID

Ross County Recorder Kathy Dunn is extending office hours for issuing Ross County U.S. Veteran Identification Cards. Any Honorably discharged veteran regardless of time served who has their military discharge recorded in the Ross County Recorder’s Office is eligible to obtain a Document Identification Card. A veteran does not have to be a resident of Ross County and can bring their original discharge papers with them to be recorded and receive the card.

The extended hours will be from 4pm- 6pm starting July 7th and running through July 11th. During these exclusive hours no other recording or business will be conducted. Please be prepared to spend up to 30 minutes for processing.

The Ross County Veteran’s ID Cards display a picture of the veteran along with recording information documenting the individual’s military service as well as other pertinent information. In addition to having their discharge papers recorded in the Recorder’s Office a veteran must also bring at least one other acceptable form of valid identification. A picture ID is preferred however the office will also accept an original or certified birth certificate, identification card issued by the US Department of Veterans Affairs, United States Military Identification Card, Social Security Card, State Issued License or Permit to carry a Concealed Weapon, State issued Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, State issued Identification Card, or valid Passport. Any disabled veteran can receive curbside assistance by calling the office.

In late May, as an extension of the program, the Recorder’s office began contacting and compiling a list of businesses that have agreed to offer discounts or special promotions for these men and women who have unselfishly served our country. There are currently almost 80 businesses committed to the program and more are being added every week. Any business that wants to participate is encouraged to contact the Recorder’s Office. Participating businesses are given a decal to display to show their participation in the program. A Facebook page was recently created to list participating businesses at www.facebook.com/RossCountyVeteransIDCards.

Business listings are being added almost daily to the page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Recorder’s Office at 740-702-3000. Our normal office hours are M-F, 8:30am - 4:30pm. The Recorder’s Office is located in the north end of the Ross County Courthouse, 2 N Paint Street, Suite E in downtown Chillicothe.
