Two Vehicle Fatal Crash in Pike County

The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash which occurred on US 23 in Pike County, at 06:12 AM December 16, 2013.

A 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by Marilyn A. Leeth, age 59, from Bainbridge, Ohio was traveling northbound on US23 and a 2010 Peterbilt semi-tractor and trailer driven by Douglas L. Holcomb, age 39, from Marengo, Ohio was traveling southbound on US23. Ms. Leeth’s vehicle traveled left of center into the southbound lanes and was struck in the right side by Mr. Holcomb’s vehicle. Ms. Leeth’s vehicle spun around ejecting her and then ran off the right side of the roadway striking a sign and an embankment. Mr. Holcomb’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

Ms. Leeth was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Dr. Kessle. Mr. Holcomb was transported to Pike County Community Hospital by Pike County EMS for minor injuries.

Crash is still under investigation and is believed to be weather related. US23 was closed for approximately onw and a half hours during the initial stages of the investigation.

Members from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County EMS/FD, PEE Township FD and EPA were on scene.
