Alexander scored seven times in the fourth inning to break open a 1-1 game, enroute to a 10-2 win over Huntington in the Division 3 District Baseball Semis Tuesday.
The Spartans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, then saw Huntington tie the score at 1-1 in the third inning, when Derek Butler singled, went to third on a double by Logan Carroll, then scored on a scarifice fly by Brian Smith.
That would be the last time Huntington was in the game.
Alexander's first three batters in the fourth inning singled, as they exploded for seven runs. Only two of their six hits in the inning got out of the infield, as Huntsmen fielding and defensive mental errors cost them an 8-1 deficit.
Alex added a run in the fifth and one in the seventh for a 10-1 lead, with Huntington adding a run in the seventh on a Lucas Sarver double, then later scored on Layne Stockham's RBI single.
Sarver took the pitching loss for the Huntsmen, yielding 8 earned runs on 11 hits. Huntington managed only five hits and committed four errors.
Huntington finishes (10-12) on the season and Alexander improves to (17-3) and will play defending state champ Wheelersburg for the upper bracket district title Wednesday at 5pm.
