Cavs Win Third Straight 65-53 at Amanda

The Cavaliers are riding a three game winning streak after their 65-53 win at Amanda in a non-conference battle rescheduled from December.

Tommy Bolte scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half as the Cavs pulled away.

Chillicothe raced out to a 9-0 lead but the Aces closed the gap to 14-10 by the end of the first period.

In the second, Isaiah Johnson drained a quarter opening three for a 17-10 Cavalier lead before Amanda rallied to tie the game at 17 on a basket by Dillon Adkins at 3:52. The Cavs closed out the quarter on an 11-2 run on layups by Bolte, Nate Rosenbauer and Matt Benson for a 28-19 lead at the break.

“We knew coming in, they’re similar to East Clinton” said Coach Eric Huffer “and if you let them stick around and they’re gonna be in it for the whole game.”

Chillicothe improved its three-point accuracy Saturday. After a 6-18 night Friday, the Cavs raised it to 44% after hitting 6-of-18 against the Aces.

“I felt were weren’t doing little things not as well as we could, like boxing out” added Huffer. “I called a 30 second time out and said two things ‘box out’. We’ve gotta treat a post better get weak side help when they try to post us up with their bigs… we knew it wasn’t gonna be easy.”

Chillicothe (9-6) increased its lead to 50-33 through three and led by 20-points before holding on for the 65-53 win.

Isaiah Johnson had 11 points, Eddie Wells dropped in 9 points, Rosenbauer scored 8, Nolan Taylor and Matt Benson had six apiece while Kyle May and Jordan Johnson combined for three.

The Aces had four players in double figures led by Mario Melucci’s 13, Kameron Black had 11 with Dillon Adkins and Riley Landrum scoring 10 apiece.

Chillicothe’s road swing continues with SCOL trips to Hillsboro (Monday), Greenfield (Tuesday) and Miami Trace (Friday) before returning to Hatton Gym Saturday with Clinton Massie.
