Repeating an accomplishment of their Clinton Massie baseball team, just the day before, the Lady Falcons win the SCOL Softball championship Thursday in convincing fashion over Chillicothe.
(10-2) Massie beat the (9-3) Lady Cavs 13-2 in five innings in Clarksville.
Chillicothe scored twice in the top of first, Bri Dawes led off with a double and scored on a single by Hayley Large. Large scored on a single by Haylee Woodbridge for a 2-0 lead.
Clinton Massie got the two runs back in the home half. Starting pitcher Maddie Ayres walked the first two batters and the third reached on an error. Taylor Flanigan just missed a home-run that hit the yellow stripe on the top of the fence and bounced back into play, but got the two RBI to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lady Falcons scored four times in the second inning with two outs. Ayres walked two batters and Hannah scored for Massie on a fielder’s choice by Lauer. Then Kaitlyn Robinson knocked a three-run shot over the fence in left center for the 6-2 Massie lead.
Ayres retired the first two batters to start the third inning, but then the Lady Falcons had seven straight hits. Robins laced a bases clearing three-run triple to the corner in right for a 10-2 lead. Bri Dawes came on in relief for CHS and surrendered a two-run homer by Flanigan to give the Falcons an 11-run cushion.
Coach Lauer said the Lady Cavaliers had a similar run against them at Chillicothe in a 9-7 CHS win. He added that the kids were "focused going into the Miami Trace game last night".
