Spring Football at Herrnstein Field

Chillicothe hosted the South All Stars at Herrnstein Field Sunday. Cavs Coach Ron Hinton is the head coach for the Division I, II and III All Stars for the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association North-South Classic on April 26th at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium.

Josh Leonard and Tyler Howard are pulling on the pads for one more high school game.

“I thought it was fun, it was completely fun today” said Howard. “It was nice to get back on the field and meeting new players.” Howard will also be long-snapping for the extra points and field goals.

Leonard is learning a new position, guard as opposed to anchoring the line at tackle. Leonard says playing the position us much different “I have to be more physical because the dudes inside are a lot bigger… stronger.”

The  All Star roster brings talent that will be playing at big name schools.

“It’s all good competition, but I’ve never gone up against someone going to Notre Dame and those places” said Leonard.

Chillicothe has always been known for good players at skill positions, but at this level, Howard says the talent stands out. “Oh yeah, a lot quicker dudes.
Everybody you see out here right now is a good player. During the season
there might be four or five on one side of the ball that’s a competitive player, but out here, everybody’s quick, everybody’s strong.”

With all due respect to their Cavalier teammates, Leonard says had this roster been Chillicothe’s “Oh, we’d probably won the state, with these (players).”

There will be additional practices at other sites getting closer to game date.

Kickoff is 1:00pm followed by the D IV, V and VI game.

The defensive line was drawn a blow yesterday when Elida’s Chance Weitz broke his left forearm. Weitz was injured while breaking his fall during a scrimmage play towards the end of practice. The 6’3” 250 pound lineman is a Bowling Green State University signee.
