In boys' Division 2 Regional Semi basketball play at the OU Convo, Thursday, Logan Elm and Bishop Watterson played a close three quarters, but it was the defending state champion Eagles who took control in the final period en route to a 62-45 final.
The Braves, whose biggest lead was 27-17, led 20-15 after the first quarter and 32-28 at halftime. Continuing to battle, Watterson led after three quarters, 43-40.
Logan Elm's Dillon Young hit a trey early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 43, but then the Eagles went on a 14-0 run, outscoring the Braves 19-5 in the final period and coming out on top, 62-45.
Bishop Watterson shot 24/45 (53%) from the field, made 4/12 from three-point range, was 10/14 from the charity strip, earned 27 rebounds, and committed 6 turnovers. Eagle Matt Hughes led all scorers with 28 points and 8 rebounds, while his teammates Andy Greiser had 11 points and Joey DiOrio claimed 7 points and 10 rebounds.
The Braves were 18/44 (41%) from the field, 7/19 for threes, and 3/6 from the foul line. Logan Elm had 15 rebounds and committed 9 turnovers. Three Logan Elm players were in double figures: Dillon Young with 20 points, Casey Tyler had 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Logan Thompson scored 10 first-half points.
Mid-State League Champion Logan Elm concludes its season at (25-3). Bishop Watterson will play in the regional final game on Saturday.
