Westfall Community Celebrates Champions

A few hundred people attended a community reception at Westfall High School Wednesday evening to honor the state champion softball team and track sprinter Kylie Goldsmith.

Numerous proclamations from governmental officials in Pickaway County were presented to the players, along with a pledge by the school to see that the athletic department would be working to obtain community support for state championship rings for each player and coach.

The Mustangs became the first team in school history to win a state title and the first softball team in the SVC and in Pickaway County to win a state crown. They are also the first SVC team in any sport to win a state championship, since the 1995 Paint Valley Bearcats in baseball.

The softball team is comprised of Gina Rosshirt, Kayla Tackett, Denise Arledge, Rebecca Brown, Kelly Fuchs, Kelsie Robinson, Ashley Salmons, Lauren Smith, Regan Stonerock, Holley Webb, Alissa Wickline and Cassidy Williams. The head coach is Fred Redman and assistant coach Greg Rosshirt.

Track sprinter Kylie Goldsmith was runner-up in the state 100 & 200 dash and is committed to attend Miami University in Oxford. Her coach is Theresa Butts.
